We are proud to call Madison, WI home and to be part of the local community. We’ve developed Dog Haus University into a leader in canine care, built on transparency, dedication, and genuine affection.
Owners and dog lovers Charles and Emily moved to Madison from Michigan in 2018. Charles has a background in engineering and occasionally gets to teach at UW. He has a special fondness for jowly dogs (especially bulldogs), and enjoys making pet-related puns. Emily has a background in research. She has a special fondness for vizslas and spaniels, and secretly enjoys spending time with cats just as much as spending time with dogs.
We believe that a balance of socialization with people, socialization with dogs, ample opportunities for exercise, and mental activity support healthy canine behavior. For some dogs, this looks like lots of cuddle time. For other dogs, this looks like running around the yard with the pack. Our job is to work with you to find the balance that supports your dog in the best way possible. We also believe that dogs need rest periods and can benefit from assistance regulating their play with other dogs. These beliefs lead us to a model of structured enrichment-style daycare where active and engaged caretakers help manage healthy dog behavior.
These beliefs also lead us to encourage a daycare-oriented approach to boarding. With an active day, the overall boarding experience is stimulating – not overwhelming – and dogs can sleep soundly through the night. Group play or enrichment sessions are provided for dogs boarding with us in any Suite, and can be added on to the stay for dogs boarding in a Dorm.
Of course, we also know that not all dogs enjoy spending time with other dogs or with people that are not “their people.” That’s why we have the option to board in a Dorm, without daily play or enrichment, which avoids unnecessary stress for such dogs. These accommodations are ideal for shorter stays or less active dogs.
Above all, we believe that every dog is different and has their own needs. we strive to work with our customers to provide personalized care for each dog who visits with us.
